NC State has reportedly been subpoenaed by a grand jury in the FBI's ongoing investigation into corruption and bribery in college basketball.
According to the Washington Post's Jesse Dougherty and Will Hobson, the FBI wants to examine records from the Wolfpack basketball program—although the exact contents of the request have been made confidential.
Yahoo Sports' Pete Thamel and Pat Forde previously reported former NC State point guard Dennis Smith Jr. was among the players who allegedly accepted impermissible benefits from Andy Miller's agency, ASM Sports.
According to one document obtained by Yahoo, Smith allegedly received a $43,500 payment from ASM. However, a separate document indicates he received $73,500 in loans with a handwritten note that said the agency had "some options to recoup the money" after Smith signed with another agency.
Several former NC State basketball coaches were also referenced in an email from ASM associate Christian Dawkins to Miller.
In the message, which was obtained by Yahoo, Dawkins wrote former NC State assistant Butch Pierre "never called me back but [former head coach Mark] Gottfried and [former assistant] Orlando Early both called me over the weekend on separate matters."
Gottfried and NC State parted ways at the end of the 2016-17 season.
