Six years ago, Justin and Amy Vallad were expecting their second child and settling into their new home in Standish near the Saginaw Bay.

But tragedy struck when Justin, 27, a road construction worker, was hit and killed by a vehicle while performing survey work for Surveying Solutions Inc. on Interstate 94 at 12 Mile Road in St.
