The Michigan Opera Theatre is closing its 2017-18 season with "The Summer King," opening this weekend - a powerful, historical account of social justice in American sports featuring a libretto by Daniel Sonenberg and Daniel Nester, with additional lyrics by Mark Campbell.

This co-production with Pittsburgh Opera is the story of Negro League baseball player Josh Gibson.
