Pokémon Quest, a “rambunctious action RPG” from Game Freak, is available now for Nintendo Switch via the eShop. The developer announced the game today as part of larger reveal for the franchise’s future, which includes two other Switch titles, Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!
To match its cube-heavy, Minecraft-style aesthetic, Pokémon Quest will take place on Tumblecube Island, where players will explore, battle, and set up a base camp via touch controls. The game is focused on the original lineup featured in Pokémon Red and Blue (meaning catchable critters from the Kanto region). In addition to cooking and customizing a base camp, players will also be able to tailor their squad’s stats using power stones and other items.
With a team of up to three Pokémon, you can explore the secrets of Tumblecube Island. Battle wild Pokémon, gather treasure, and even befriend new Pokémon—if you have the right ingredients, that is! #PokemonQuest puts the power in your hands. pic.twitter.com/BuVVenFAYR
