Shannon Moran of the Detroit Fire Department fights blazes and Detroit Police Lt. La Shanna Potts fights crime. Both were finalists for woman of the year awards at the Detroit Public Safety Foundation's Women in Blue Breakfast.

"I'm not big on being in the spotlight but this award brings attention to the women who are doing these jobs and the more girls I can get interested in firefighting the better," said Moran, who has been a firefighter for more than 20 years and has earned numerous awards for her work.
