As businesses embrace values in the workplace, they are starting to take stands on controversial issues such as same-sex marriage, immigration, race relations, and environmental policies. But not everyone in a workplace feels comfortable with every position -- or with the groupthink and "virtue signaling" that goes with them. The key to moving forward is authenticity: creating a context for dialogue about the values of the enterprise, and why people agree or disagree with those values. Doing will require leaders to learn mental agility, cognitive humility, and how to create psychological safety.
