Washington gridlock likely to bring more hardship to millions losing enhanced unemployment benefits

Donald Trump was controversially poised to intervene in coronavirus relief aid action on Friday evening after talks between Republican and Democratic negotiators collapsed hours earlier, with the sides far apart on dollars and ideas.

A last-ditch effort by Democrats to revive Capitol Hill talks came to nothing earlier on Friday, making it increasingly likely that Washington gridlock will mean more hardship for millions of people who are losing enhanced jobless benefits and further damage for an economy pummeled by the still-raging coronavirus.
