She first suggested it at New York Comic Con, and now Gillian Anderson has confirmed that the upcoming eleventh season of FOX’s “The X-Files,” the second season since the show’s revival, will be her last.

In a recent interview with TV Insider, Anderson reiterated her decision to leave the series behind: “I’ve said from the beginning this is it for me. I was a bit surprised by people’s [shocked] reaction to my announcement…because my understanding was that this was a single season.”

Creator Chris Carter has previously mentioned the show could go on for quite some time yet, but a twelfth season is by no means a certainty.

“The X-Files” returns to screens January 3rd.
